Culture of Consumerism: Reduce, Reuse, Reculture – WEEE Centre Perth Perth College UHI, Perth, Scotland
This was an artist commission to evoke dialogue around the topic of E-Waste and our responsibility to the planet and the people on it. It was a full day event held on the college grounds.
For the morning session I designed 4 fun workshops that encouraged dialogue around the event’s topic: using reclaimed electronic waste to make jewellery, mirrors and clocks and the building of a mixed media mural with Perth College’s NC Art Students. In the afternoon I delivered an artist talk on how my practice related to the theme and the rationale behind the morning workshops.
Control Me Project 2016 (Also not the sub-menus) – MFA Exhibition 2016 10th – 14th September 2016
Concerned about Western societies apparent withdrawal from the real world to become increasingly preoccupied with ever-evolving and ever-trending immersive social platforms. This concern has become particularly pressing as we move closer to a world where virtual and augmented reality will become commonplace and the lines between the virtual and the real become even more blurred.
Through creative collaborative and participatory events involving a variety of age ranges, both online (Gaming, Twitter, Facebook etc.) and within the real world (Forest walks, Popup events), I have endeavoured to create an ‘interstice’, a space, which encourages dialogue surrounding these concerns. This research has also persuaded me to reconsider my own relationship to both the real and virtual world, which has given me personal insights that have widened the creative course.
Location: Forest Fawr – UNESCO Global Geopark in the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales.
At the end of May 2016 I was very lucky to have the opportunity to work with a local Beaver Scout troop – 1st Rhiwbina Cardiff, ‘River Kings’ Beaver Troop.
This piece was designed to encourage the Beavers to experience the forest by listening to the sounds, smelling the smells and describing them by text or image. The then constructed sculptures with all manner of found objects. I wanted the participants to embrace the natural world whilst also engaging with their imagination. To complete this piece I ran a short stop motion animation workshop using smart tablets and smart devices utilising the forest floor and found objects.
Roots in the Community – 26th Jan – 6th Feb 2016 – High Street Arcade, Cardiff
My submission for this exhibition involved socially engaged participation with the local community, local school children (Year 4s and 6s from St Albans RC Primary School and 44th Cardiff Beavers/Cubs/Scouts) and other artists. I was interested in creating an interstice in a neutral space within the city that invited dialogue about our waning relationship with nature through creative play and the sharing of stories.

Remember Nature Project – 4th November 2015 – A Gustav Metzger Initiative
Artists from around the world were invited by artist Gustav Metzger to participate on a Day of Action to address global issues: e.g. climate change, the environment, pollution, human disassociation from nature and the possibility of human extinction. All these responses were held on 4th November 2015. I organised a participatory workshop.
Collaborative and Participatory Workshop – Remember Nature Project
Aims of this workshop: By working together towards a common goal the workshop is designed to encourage participants to consider their relationship to the natural world in a fun and playful environment. It is hoped that this will open dialogue within them, and hopefully inspire them to continue the conversation throughout their lives with others.
– The video was also accepted to be presented on the Gustav Metzger Remember Nature Page.
