The organization was initially a grassroots project that was setup 10 years ago to combat the radical hate campaign that was and is still being pushed by the political hate group Britain First. Hope Not Hate was offering 30 places on a training weekend here in Cardiff on the 12th and 13th of March. I jumped at the chance of getting involved (Didn’t literally jump as I’ve torn ligaments and am currently hobbling around on crutches). After a short telephone interview with the people in charge I was offered a place. I am delighted to get the opportunity to develop real hands on training around organizing social/activist events and learning how to approach agencies that could potentially be allies. The course is designed so that attendees get relevant and hands on advice from people who have and are currently working on the ground. Whilst it is not exactly what I am currently working on in regards to my art practice I can still see its relevance, particularly in regards to creating communal spaces that allow for open dialogue. I am looking forward to taking part….watch this space.
